74 Days
Sometimes you wake up in the morning and decide you’re moving to Amsterdam. Or really, sometimes you’re 14 and stuck in small-town Texas and dream of a European life. Then when you’re 21 and living in Beirut, you meet some nice Dutchies and somehow get it in your head that you’re moving to Holland, as soon as you possibly can.

I knew from a young age I wanted to live in Europe. I just had no idea how complicated it would be. In my final term of university, I started making moves to make my dreams a reality, living and working in the creative capital, Amsterdam. I became a professional internet stalker, nailing the art of finding and emailing creatives across Amsterdam.  Then, in December of 2018 I set off on a two-week trip to Amsterdam to start having meetings and conversations with creatives and employers, and maybe score an internship for May 2019.

After gaining serious momentum, meeting with creatives and creative directors I knew returning to Texas for another brutally hot spring and waiting until May wasn’t the right answer. So, for one week I returned to my small Texas town, sold all my possessions, including my apartment, packed two suitcases, and moved to the Netherlands. From the day I arrived, I had 74 days on my tourist visa to get a job, find a way to stay, or return to a life of suburban agony. As a fresh 22 year old, I moved across the world, without any family or connections to start a new life.

This is the story of the 74 days.

Currently in production. For the first few pages drop me a line.
